I've known Candra and Dinda since they're still boyfriend and girlfriend. I was there when finally they tied the knot as husband and wife. And now, they're expecting a baby. Yay-ness! So when they asked me to document their maternity, I couldn't say no even though I was like errrr... I didn't really know what to do, I wasn't sure I can do it, and so all the insecurities went on. And then, another problem came after. Well, I knew what I wanted from the beginning, how the final photos would be like. But "knowing it" is far different from "doing it". I didn't know what to do with the photos. So, I googled numbers of Photoshop tutorial and did a lot of trials and errors, still I couldn't get the photos I wanted. I'll try again later though. Well, I should stop making excuses for my amateurish works. So, from the bottom of an amateur's heart, I hope they'll happy with the results.

Nukilan
Nukilan yang kembali pada pagi

an Indian in Indonesia
From 27th October to 4th November 2012, me and 16 of my friends from Kelas Pagi Yogyakarta got an opportunity to present our works on "Pameran Tugas Akhir KPY Angkatan 2: We are All Family". I had four photos displayed on this exhibition.
The title of my photos is "Jauh" or "Distant". The subject on my photos is Sainik, an Indian who lives in Indonesia. He lives kilometers away from his family and as a result he missed some important occasions such as weddings. His absence cause an effect; it is as if he's being 'erased' from family documentation. The purpose of my photos is then to recreate the occasions and to put back Sainik on those family documentation. I used LCD projector because it gives an illusion of beingness. During the shoot, I asked him to pretend as if he was at the wedding, with his family. I wanted him to interact, to show emotion, and I pictured a sort of sadness, a sort of distance. The result illuminated me; I realized that distant is not merely about metric system, it's not only about physical presence, it's beyond that.
I was kind of having this uncertainty, this dissatisfaction with my works. I thought I didn't achieve what I really wanted. However tonight, I got a very positive review from Don Hasman. You have no idea how simple words from a simple man (even though he's anything but simple and everybody knows it) like Don Hasman can be like the greatest encouragement that I should've trusted myself more, that I actually have a little spark of hope to continue to learn photography. You know I always lack of confidence when it comes to photography.
Anyway, these photos are work of many and I thank them whole-heartedly;

So, this Yuya guy, a good friend of mine, asked me million zillion years ago to do his book cover. And I waited and I waited until he finished his writings... BAM! A million years has passed and this is it! A humble cover for his book entitled "Menunggu Pulang"

Solstice
Solstice, di sini matahari terus- terusan
sembunyi, dan bulan jadi ratu jalanan. Aku menunggumu.
Lampu- lampu berbentuk bunga salju
berpendar warna- warni di tembok gedung- gedung tinggi Fifth Avenue. Sementara
hutan setia memucat di hadapanku. Aku menunggumu.

“Ke mana
bebek- bebek itu pergi ketika musim dingin?” tanyamu pada suatu ketika.
Aku
mengangkat wajah dari halaman ke- lima “The Catcher in the Rye”. Matahari sore
musim semi hangat menimpa wajahmu. The Pond tampak setenang hati kita, dan hutan
buatan manusia ini sedang kembali berwarna.
“Di sinilah
tempat kita seharusnya.. “ bisikmu, “kota dimana karya- karyaku dihargai, bukan
saja dengan pujian dan basa- basi tapi dibeli”
“Kamu…
percaya.. kita…hmmm…?”
“Ini
sulit, tapi denganmu… apapun bisa… “
“Ah,
sang fotografer dan penulis… living large in America!!! “
Aku
menyelinap di antara kedua tanganmu. Sore di depan The Pond yang sempurna.

Apa
yang kulihat seperti utopia. Kamu, duduk diam di salah satu bangku taman itu,
dan pepohonan dengan daun- daunnya yang mulai menguning. Tak ada yang lebih
teduh.
“Solstice!”
Kamu
berdiri, kira- kira dua langkah jarak antara kita. Kamu membaca raut wajahku.
Kamu mengerti aku membawa kabar gembira.
“Hello,
permanent resident of America” kamu mengangkat tubuhku, dan kita berputar-
putar tak peduli sekitar.
Tapi
cuma sebentar saja, lalu gembira kita berhenti disela wajah- wajah kalut,
orang- orang berbicara panik dengan telpon genggam mereka, kemudian berlarian
entah mengapa dan menuju apa.
Kamu
mencoba bertanya pada seorang lelaki tua yang memandangmu dengan tatapan paling
ganjil yang pernah kita terima; “Hey, what is happening?”
“Haven’t
you heard? Those terorists… “ dia tak menyelesaikan kata- katanya, berlari
menjauh. Aku melirik pada jam yang melingkari pergelangan tangan; jam sembilan
lewat sebelas pagi, tanggal sebelas bulan sembilan tahun dua ribu satu.

Pintu
apartemen studiomu tidak terkunci. Buku- buku, jurnal- jurnal, diktat- diktat,
kertas- kertas berserakan di lantai, sofa dan meja tak lagi benar berada di
tempatnya, laci- laci terbuka sembarangan, lemari pakaian acak- acakan, tempat
tidurmu dibongkar paksa, beberapa foto karyamu yang sangat kamu banggakan
diambil dari dalam pigura, CPU komputermu hilang.
“Solstice?”
aku memanggilmu. Tak ada jawaban. Tolong, Tuhan, tolong.
“Achmad?!!!”
aku memanggilmu, lagi. Tak ada jawaban.
Aku
tak bisa menemukanmu dimana- mana. Mereka membawamu entah kemana. Aku memungut
Al- Quran yang jatuh di bawah meja, di antara lembarannya, secarik kertas
dengan tulisan tanganmu terjatuh; datanglah ke The Pond, setiap tanggal 12 Februari, kita
merayakan kelahiranmu bersama.

Aku menunggumu.
Dari atas Jembatan Gapstow, hutan masih
memucat. Aku menangis, rapat- rapat.

Solstice atau titik balik matahari adalah peristiwa astronomi yang terjadi dua kali dalam satu tahun ketika bumi amat miring. Solstice musim panas biasanya terjadi pada 21 Juni ditandai dengan siang hari terpanjang dalam setahun. Sedangkan solstice musim dingin pada 21 Desember ditandai dengan malam hari terpanjang dalam setahun.
